BBC Look North (6.26 am - 14th October 2013)

"An energy company is to investigate the potential for a wind farm in Lincolnshire. Swedish utility company, Vattenfall, says an initial study at Nocton Fen revealed that up to 23 wind turbines could sit on the site. They will spend the next few weeks talking to local communities."

The spokesperson for Vattenfall, Jason Ormiston said:
"Any suggestion of a wind farm of this nature, it's natural that people would have concerns about that... but we are at a very early stage and we want to have that conversation with people, understand what their fears are. Hopefully we can allay those fears and we can do this by listening to people and designing a wind farm that responds to those concerns."

Vattenfall

"Vattenfall's vision is to create a strong and diversified European energy portfolio with sustainable and increased profits, significant growth options and will be among the leaders in developing environmentally sustainable energy production."

Press Release re: Nocton Fen

Vattenfall’s Project Manager Graham Davey said: “Vattenfall is at the very earliest stages of assessing the potential of a wind farm at Nocton Fen. This phase is all about identifying issues and opportunities; that is why we will start by engaging with the local community, local representatives, other key interests and national environmental organisations.”

Nocton Fen - Exploring the Wind Energy Potential

"There will be many opportunities for the community to get involved, share ideas, and talk to the team over the coming months. Information will be circulated as widely as possible locally in the coming weeks. Wind Farms

This is a link to an earlier blog entry about wind farms. You may be interested in the Press Release from another company, Renewable Energy Systems, which looked at the feasibility of erecting wind turbines on Nocton Fen back in 2004... and decided against it!

Wind Turbine Poll Fiasco

“It is true that large, industrial-scale wind turbines in the open countryside are unpopular. Locally, we had a successful campaign against 36 turbines in Nocton and subsequently I helped draw up the reasonably balanced policy on wind power, first completed about two years ago.  It does not suggest a “blanket ban”, but a more thoughtful approach..."

Number of planned new onshore wind farms has doubled since 2011

Record numbers of onshore wind farms have been approved for construction this year as power companies cash in on hundreds of millions of pounds in subsidies.

The Winds of Change

'There’s a new wind blowing across Europe. Windpower is predominantly located in Germany, Denmark and Spain, and a recent European Union report predicted wind will power Europe’s demands several times over before 2020.'

  1. It will be interesting to see how Parish, District and County Council line up on this one and how much the local community will be directly canvassed for its opinions.

While I suspect nobody has ever wanted to live next to the power infrastructure that has kept our lights on for the last 100 years (coal, oil, gas, nuclear biomass or refuse fired power station, pylons, sub-stations ...) we have to generate most of it somewhere in Britain and wind power is part of a balanced generation portfolio. We can't really offer much in the way of hydro power in Nocton!

  2. Thanks for your thoughtful comment. It will be very interesting to see how the local community respond to this latest issue and whether or not support is forthcoming on the matter.

  3. Just identified on the Vattenfall website the area of interest and guess what village has the easiest access for traffic increase during build and then ongoing maintenance....yep it's good old Nocton yet again. You can also register your interest on their website to receive future updates via survey monkey.

Appalling! Another rural landscape ruined by Industrial monsters 1.5 times the height of Lincoln Cathedral. We're fed up with energy bills going up to pay massive subsidies to rich landowners and foreign energy companies. Wind energy is an expensive scam and must be stopped before the countryside and the economy are ruined.

  7. Interesting to read what is happening elsewhere in the County on this front.

  8. As a regular visiter to Linconshire from Northumberland I would say resist this at all cost! A huge 25 turbine complex has been built recently near us and few people realised just how big it would be and how far away people could see it. Its not save the planet, its greed for the huge revenue that our government pays to wind farm developers that drives these people on and no doubt you will be bribed with all sorts of money and sweets so that you can spend the next 25 years listening to the backround relentless hum of turbines. Say NO to this now but most of all write to Cameron and get him to stop his subsidies.

  9. Thank you Dr Craig for your comment. I am not aware that any community group is rushing forward to take action on this matter. Perhaps residents are waiting for the promised consultation from the developer before considering their next actions. It will also be interesting to see what the land owners have to say about the proposal too. Kind regards.

  10. Residents of Nocton has been taken for granted by big companies recently.I think the residents of the beautiful village should oppose the wind farm or anything commercial which destroys the beautiful countryside.
