Wind Farm

Vattenfall Update

I have just received feedback relating to the local Information Sessions - this was received today and it warrants an additional blog, particularly as the content posted earlier related to Wind Turbines. I have reproduced the email below for your perusal:

"Dear Geoff,

Thank you for taking the time to attend our recent information session regarding our proposal to explore the potential for a wind farm development at Nocton Fen.

The sessions were very useful as we received some valuable comments and feedback from local residents which we will feed into our research and assessment work.

Please find attached a copy of the feedback report which includes details of the comments we received and information on how we intend to use this input. You will also find information on the next steps in the process and how we will continue to keep you informed.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can do so by calling our freephone number 0800 377 7348, emailing noctonfen@vattenfall.com.

You can find a web copy of the report here: http://www.vattenfall.co.uk/en/file/2014-01-24_Engagement_Feedback_Report_One.pdf_50188962.pdf.

Yours sincerely
Graham Davey
Senior Development Manager"

Please also feel free to comment on the blog with any observations, but bear in mind your first port of call should be to Vattenfall as described above.

  1. I'm a little surprised that so far there have been no comments from anyone on the report from Vattnfall on the proposed wind farm. Does this show a lack interest by local people in a project that would have a major impact on the local environment? Probably not, at least I would hope not. What does concern me is, and I stand to be corrected if proven otherwise, is the apparent?
lack of support for the residents of Wasp's Nest, who would be the ones most severely affected by the wind farm.
In terms of Metheringham where I live I suspect that most people, if not all, are not particularly bothered either way if the project goes ahead.
Although there was a fair turnout from Nocton at the information sessions, overall it does seem the turn out from all the villagers was on the low side.
If these comments stimulate others to voice their opinions then that can only be a good thing.

  2. I see Vattenfal are pressing on with their wind farm plans for Nocton Fen. See page 11 of this weeks Sleaford Standard. They will use every means at their disposal to promote their cause. It is significant that the article concludes with the words " and benefits to the community and economy."
Where are the people who are not happy about the proposed wind farm?
Silence may be golden but it also "speaks volumes". Am I the sole person to voice my comments on the recent Vattenfall report?

  3. Hi Richard, once again thank you for your comments. As you can see from the dearth of responses, there has been no debate or discussion. This may indicate a complete apathy by local residents towards the wind farm... on the other hand it could be that people are keeping things 'close to their chest' until more detail is available. I doubt if we'll ever know the real reason.

  4. Hi Geoff
Good to hear your comments at least. Not being a resident of Nocton I feel I need to be careful what I say, but I suspect you are probably right in hinting at the element of apathy among local residents, and also that some people are holding back in airing their views. There is a hard core of people from Wasps Nest and a number from surrounding villages who are I believe strongly opposed to the wind farm, but probably don't feel it appropriate to voice their views on this blog for one reason or another.
As you are know I am very much in the anti-wind farm camp, but still feel it beneficial to engage in meaningful dialogue with Vattenfall when the opportunity arises. Certainly there is no doubt that so far with the way they have gone about holding the open sessions in the villages, and with their publicity in the local press, the initiative is very much with Vattenfall, and the apparent lack of response from locals (at least in the media) is a valid point they could refer to when and if any future planning application were to go to a public inquiry. It is a fact that opposition to wind farms is generally more effective in the early stages.
If these comments stir someone at least to make some response and challenge what I have said, and probably disagree, I will be delighted.
I have no doubt that in time the voice of the anti wind farm side will be heard in the public domain, and to my mind it can't come soon enough. So far to the onlooker and outsider it has seemed a very one-sided affair, and no doubt Vattenfal will be wise and clever enough to monitor and record comments made on this Nocton blog.
