Broadband

BT Infinity

Seems like fibre optic is coming to our area earlier than expected. Last time I looked we were nowhere on the radar, but now it appears Metheringham will be upgraded 1st March 2014. Please see the following link: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

I have double-checked on the BT Infinity website too: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ and it validates this date. I am wondering whether our green street cabinet outside the Post Office has already been upgraded to connect to the Metheringham exchange, but whatever the case it looks more hopeful for high speed broadband in Nocton village... yippee.

  1. There are currently two BT street cabinets feeding Nocton. Neither of them are activated for fibre yet. One sits outside the Post Office and the other at the junction of Manor Court and Potterhanworth Road.

Each cabinet will be replaced with new taller ones (due to the additional switching equipment needed) and a planning application will be sought to site/position the new ones. They will be sited next to, or very near to, the existing ones and once switched over the old ones will be recovered. Depending on BT costs Manor Court cabinet may even be recovered and the copper patched through with only the PO cabinet feeding the whole of the village.

Currently there is no fibre from Metheringham to the Nocton cabinets, only copper mains and copper distribution to the customer.

The easy part is Metheringham Exchange upgrade. The longer timescale may be fibre from Meg to each Nocton cabinet, installation of new cabinets, patching and switching each customer over but this should run smoothly.

It's in BTs interest to connect as soon as the exchange is upgraded so in summary fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) and copper to the customer. Easily enough bandwidth for high users and SME's. Looking forward to Openreach vans swamping the village and upgrading our Bandwidth at last.

  3. Main fibre cable installed this week Lincoln Main to Metheringham Exchange.

Spine fibre installed today, Junction B1188 to main Nocton Street Cabinet.

Would expect new cabinet change outs and Main to Spine cable jointing in the next week or two in conjunction with Metheringham equipment upgrade.

All seems on track for our Village Super Fast Broadband.

  5. Hello has anyone heard any updates since the last post? Not had anything through the post saying that it has been completed.

  6. Thanks for your enquiry. It appears the infrastructure is still being installed. I have noticed a new (taller version) of the green cabinets has just been erected on the B1188 at the Dunston junction. I am aware that my line is routed through the original green cabinet in this location, so am assuming it won't be long before Nocton is connected up. No specific date forthcoming as yet though I'm afraid.

  7. There has been a great deal of speculation over many months but nothing certain as yet. We're now in October and our current speeds in Nocton are still very poor. Can anyone say with a degree of certitude whether and when we will benefit from improvements?

  8. Hi Vernon, I have tried phoning BT but with no joy. Although their computer system seems to indicate my telephone no is able to get superfast broadband, when they dig deeper it isn't available. Nobody at BT appears to be able to give me a definitive response when it will be available... and whether it is going to be available at all in Nocton. Poor customer service I have to say.
