A special lady indeed

Eileen (a Liverpool lass) first met her future husband George in 1952, when she came to Lincolnshire for a working holiday on the land.

After keeping in touch by letter and going out with each other, George and Eileen were finally married on Thursday 25 March 1954 at St. Robert Bellarmines Church, Orrell.  As George was working for Smith's Crisps who owned the Nocton Estate at the time, they settled down to live in the Old Row, Nocton.

Eileen originally worked in an office in Bootle before she met George and went on to be employed by the Inland Revenue Rating and Valuation Department in Lincoln.

Eileen was a long standing member of Nocton Women's Institute and became a Parish Councillor in 1967, diligently serving this village for some 36 years, before retiring in May 2004. She was also a member of the Nocton Friendship Club for over 30 years. This is an outstanding record of public and community service that is unlikely ever to be exceeded in Nocton again.

Eileen always took the trouble to speak with people, her bubbly personality and humour making you feel at ease immediately. Eileen had the rare gift of making everyone feel special, always leaving you in a better frame of mind after chatting.

Eileen will be sadly missed by all who came into contact with her.

Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
