Support Nocton Cricket Club

Nocton Cricket Club News

At the moment our late spring weather doesn’t exactly make for a great start to the cricket season – typical weather, but not really what we need! Nevertheless we have only had to cancel one game so far which is pretty impressive. The three teams we have met so far have been very strong and we have yet to record a win but there is plenty of talent in the team and we are hoping for better things later in the season.

In just 2 weeks’ time we have our Summer Fete (June 14th) and we hope lots of people will come along to support. The Fete starts at 2.00pm and posters are going up around the village. Last year’s fete was rained off so it would be great to have some lovely, sunny weather and a lot of support.
As it warms up (hopefully!) there can be few more delightful settings to sit, relax and enjoy village cricket than the club’s ground on the Bridleway. The picture below should prove it!

Nocton  - what a super setting.

Here are the rest of the fixtures for this season. Only five are home games but some of the other venues are not so far away.

Some weeks we are short of players and struggle to make enough for a team. This is common all over the country and, in recent years, a number of village clubs have folded through lack of interest and lack of finance. We obviously would hate for that to happen in our village. If you are keen on cricket and fancy a game, even if it’s only an occasional game, please get in touch with me and I’ll pass your name on to the skipper, Matthew, who will be both delighted and relieved!

We have recently received two very generous grants from Beeswax and from Nocton Parish Council/200 Club which have given us the funding to buy a really good mobile cricket net – it’s on order already. We don’t just want to enable our regular team members to practise at the ground – we also want to encourage others in the village who might like to join us. We are also hoping to encourage the youngsters in the village to come along and enjoy the game. We have bought our own “Kwik Cricket” set so that younger players can access the game without having to wield hefty bats and get padded up as if they were going into the arena!

Above all, we’d like to encourage the people of Nocton to enjoy the game at a local level, become involved as supporters or players and raise the profile of the club in the village.
